South East Yoga and Wellbeing impacts the holistic wellbeing of children, students & educators in the early childhood education sector & schools with Yoga Play, Wellbeing Warrior & Wayapa Wuurrk Programs.
Through yoga & wellbeing incursions, professional development & mentoring we help you to embed programs that will enhance the wellbeing of the children & students in your care.
We aim to:
1. Inspire early childhood educators to use yoga as a tool in their early childhood service to support children’s mental health wellbeing so they thrive.
2. Promote positive mental health wellbeing in schools so that students feel empowered to take control of their own wellbeing so they embrace their lives.
3. Connect more deeply with Mother Earth, indigenous ways of thinking & sustainability through Wayapa Wuurrk Programs.
As an educator of 30 years, I always believed sound social & emotional skills in children were a crucial aspect of early childhood development.
If children feel good about themselves, they are more likely to thrive, try new things, become resilient & interact positively with others. Ultimately they grow into happier young people and adults. This was the driving force behind why I was passionate about creating yoga programs for early childhood.
I’d been practising yoga for awhile when one of my yoga instructors suggested I do a children’s yoga training. So I completed a 3 day Rainbow Kids yoga course which reminded me not to take life so seriously & to have fun! Fun is a big component of of the Yoga Play Program because fun engages children! Completing my level 1 teacher training with Byron Yoga & Bliss Baby Yoga, allowed me to further my knowledge on all things yoga.
The Yoga Play Program has been in yoga studios, early primary years and early childhood education services since February 2017.
One of my favourite aspects of facilitating yoga is helping to guide children learn how to connect their mind & body.
Yoga has so many benefits for children such as developing stronger emotional literacy, calmer minds, quieter bodies, greater physical ability, self regulation & enhanced focus.
By establishing safe, supportive communities during a Yoga Play session, educators learn to assist children to develop life skills, for example, listening, concentration, respect & turn taking which helps them cope better in group situations, such as the kindergarten and school environments. The child’s transition to school is eased through the development of these skills.
South East Yoga and Wellbeing equips the early childhood educator with actionable techniques and a solid framework so that they can confidently incorporate yoga and wellbeing into early childhood curriculum. By empowering educators with the knowledge of Yoga Play we help improve their facilitation skills through increasing confidence & the capability to embed these practices. We aim to assist you in embedding yoga programs that remain sustainable. This ensures that children have every chance of thriving in life from kindergarten and beyond.
